"For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.

He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭62:5-8

“My hope” - my joyful anticipation of a certain future - “is from Him.” That explains everything!

No one but God can guarantee the future. Lately we’ve seen experts try to predict the economy, the climate, the outcome of the elections, and what the Corona Virus is going to do. The one thing the experts all have in common is egg on their faces.

If things as relatively predictable as these leave our best experts in each field baffled, how can we have any kind of certainty at all in this life?

Jesus is Lord even of the future. If our hope, our confidence, our sense of certainty is in Him, we will not be shaken. Whatever comes, if we know that our life is in His loving hands, what do we have to fear?

It doesn’t matter what the economy, the climate, or the virus does. It doesn’t matter who ends up in charge. Yes, all these things have consequences, but God is still on the throne of the universe, Jesus is still Lord of all, and He is my rock and my refuge.

Whatever happens, I can pour out my heart to Him in prayer, put all my fears into His hands, and quietly wait, trusting in Him.

Lord Jesus, “my times are in Your hands.” I don’t know what the future holds, but I know You hold the future. My life, my health, my family, my country, and all that matters I entrust to Your care. Lord, keep me close. Amen.
