"For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name's sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for Himself."

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12:22‬

Even as Samuel confronted the people regarding their sin, he encouraged them to be faithful in trusting in the Lord. He reminded them of God’s mercy and His readiness to forgive and restore them because of His great love for them.

We sometimes turn our back on God and forsake Him, but God never forsakes us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. (II Timothy 2:13)

When we turn again in repentance we find that God is still faithful to the covenant He made with us in Jesus. The covenant of our Baptism still stands so far as He is concerned. The promise of salvation to all who believe in Christ as their Savior is still as effective as it always was. He was just waiting for us to return to it.

Lord Jesus, my only hope is in your forgiveness. Your infinite love and patience assure me that in spite of everything You have not changed toward me, even when I forsook You. Your promise to me still stands. Keep me close; never let me wander far from You. Thank You for your commitment to me. Amen.
