"As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God, which God will establish forever."
Psalm 48:8
The “City of God” is the Church. One of the great discoveries of my life at an early age was that the Bible stories about God answering prayer, taking care of His people, and being personally concerned with the details of their life weren’t just records of ancient history. They were intended to show us how it works today. They are examples for us to follow.
The life of a Christian today is supposed to be like the life of God’s people from the beginning. The Bible is intended to be normative, not just historical, so that what we hear in the Bible is what we see in the Church today. In the Bible stories, God illustrates the relationship He want to have with His chosen ones, giving us examples, both good and bad, of faith and of unbelief at work.
Lord, give me a heart that takes these lessons to heart. Let me see in my life what I have heard in Your Word. Fulfill Your Word in my life, in Jesus’ name, amen.
