"But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me."

‭‭Micah‬ ‭7:7-8‬

In times of trouble, people look for a source of stability. We want something solid, something we can count on. It might be a bank account, an investment plan, a wise counselor, the government or a particular political party. Maybe it's family or the community that we assume will be there for us.

When times are really hard, all of these will eventually disappoint us. We become disillusioned, frustrated and bitter, because what we thought was sure and unshakable, wasn’t.

The prophet Micah could see that his countrymen were fixing their hopes on things that they thought would certainly be there for them, but he knew they would all eventually fail. When we trust in what we can see, we will eventually be disappointed.

True stability, true strength to face anything at all in life or death, is found by trusting in what we can’t see. God and His promises can never fail. If you look to Jesus, even when you fall, even when you find yourself in a dark place, when you wait for Him, He will hear your cry, He will lift you up, carry you through, and light up your darkness.

Lord, my hope is in You. Times are uncertain and there is evil loose in the world. Health and wealth can be snatched away in a moment. Peace and stability are no longer assured.  I don’t know what the future holds but I will trust in You, my Savior and God. Your promises are better than gold, and I know You are listening. My hope is in You, Lord Jesus. Amen.
