"Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?”
Ezekiel 18:25
Human ethical standards are different from God’s moral Law. It has alway been that way, but it becomes even more evident in a pluralistic society like ours, made up of people from many different religions - or no religion at all. We have to agree on a set of behavioral standards that we can all accept, that we will all adhere to in order to keep our society from self-destructing.
For those who adhere to God’s moral Law as their standard of behavior, this is usually not a problem. We just live by a higher moral standard than the rest of society.
But in ancient Israel and now again in our day, a point is reached where human secular society decides that the human standard is the higher one and God's Law is evil, wrong and perverted.
Sinful, perverted behavior is promoted above good, moral behavior as though it were better while godly, righteous living is viewed as weird, strange, suspicious. As this mentality progresses to its next level, parents who raise their children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” (as we promise at Baptism) may be accused of abuse and threatened with the State confiscating their children.
Twenty years ago this would have been unthinkable but we’re actually seeing this now. The news stories of parents losing custody of minor children because they refuse to accept a state-imposed perverted lifestyle are more common every month.
We are in a battle for the soul of our nation, but it’s not the battle that politicians are touting; its a crisis of morality. It’s the desperate need for a sweeping revival of genuine heart conversion from the lordship of the World, the flesh, and the devil, to the lordship of Christ.
It’s a battle that has to be fought in every generation, and it will be won or lost on our watch, on our knees. Pray for our country!
Lord Jesus, You offer grace, forgiveness, salvation and healing to those who turn to You in repentance and faith. Turn our nation to Yourself, beginning with me. Get hold of my heart and never let me go. Amen!
