For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations." - ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭100:5‬

God says three things about Himself in this verse. If we believe them, they will radically change our whole perspective on life.

“The Lord is good.” Our fallen human nature is quick to believe that God is not good, because we have a twisted idea of what that word means. We selfishly believe that “good” means that I get what I want. The will of God is what’s truly good, because He is truly good. We can trust that what He wants is always what is good.

“His steadfast love endures forever.“ His lovingkindness toward us never wavers, never fails. He never tires of loving and forgiving His children. If we can get hold of this truth, we will stop assuming, every time something unexpected happens, that God has quit loving us and is punishing us for our sin, it will change our whole approach to life. We can greet the unknown and unexpected with confidence, if we truly believe this.

“His faithfulness [endures] to all generations.” God will keep His promises to us just as He did to the Prophets and Kings of the Old Testament, and just as He did to the Apostles. He is faithful to His Word and to His people in every generation.

Lord God, forgive me for doubting that you are good, for assuming that Your love has wavered, and for thinking that You could fail to keep Your Word to me. Write on my heart these three unchanging principles, so that my heart can rest in You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
