"It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness." - Proverbs 16:12
God’s blessing is what brings stability and security to a nation. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34)
When a nation through its government not only tolerates but promotes sinful perversion, the murder of innocent children, and the subversion of justice, the very earth cries out to God for judgment. God, in His mercy, may delay it, giving us time to repent and seek His forgiveness, but unless and until that happens, every day and every year that we continue down this road adds to the burden of guilt, weakens the foundation of our stability and security, and increases the coming judgment.
What will it take for us as a nation to return to God’s favor and blessing?
A nation is made up of people: individuals and families. Repentance and faith are not social movements, they are what happens in each heart as the Word of God convicts us of sin and awakens faith.
When a lot of individuals are converted in a short time, we call it a revival, a social movement. But it’s the individual hearts that turn in repentance and faith to God that make up that movement. Spiritual revival comes to each heart, one by one.
What will it take?
It begins with the House of God. First, each of us has to deal with the sin in our own lives and be restored in our walk with God. After that, we can begin to reach out in love and humility to our own families, and pray for and seek salvation for them.
The government is the reflection of the people and will always lag behind as the movement back to God grows. These things never happen “from the top down.”
This is how it begins:
Lord, forgive my participation in the sin that has become so characteristic of my nation. By Your grace I will reject it and flee from it. Wash away my guilt and restore me in my walk with You. Keep me close as we go on from here, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
