"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works." - Titus 2:11-14
He gave Himself for us - He offered Himself as the atoning sacrifice for us on the cross.
To redeem us - to buy us back, after we had sold ourselves into slavery to sin.
From all lawlessness - to set us free from the chaos of a life lived in rebellion against God and against His loving ways and His purpose. To purify for Himself a people for His own possession - to cleanse us from our guilt, sin, and perversion, wash away our guilt and set us apart to be His own beloved, holy people. Zealous for good works - as a result, we are free to dedicate ourselves to doing good things in this world, instead of selfish, cruel, and evil things, because we belong to Jesus, and He has promised to take care of us in every way. Lord, You have redeemed me and set me apart for Yourself. Your love, mercy and grace surround me. I live surrounded by Your forgiveness, protection and provision. Lord Jesus, show me the good work You have prepared for me to do today. Keep me close as I serve You. Amen! Pastor Dan Giles
