"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him."
Nahum 1:7
These encouraging words are embedded in a long chapter predicting judgment about to fall. Does that seem strange?
God constantly reminds us of His love, mercy, forgiveness and protection even as He describes the consequences of disobedience. He wants us to always remember that like a loving father, He grieves when it becomes necessary to discipline His own children - and like a loving father, He is fierce in protecting them. The judgment in this chapter was being directed toward Nineveh and the Assyrians.
Whatever is about to come to our world, remember that the Lord Jesus knows those who seek refuge in Him. You can always flee to Him and be safe.
Lord Jesus, You are my stronghold. You are my place of safety. I know I am forgiven, loved, protected and comforted, and I find healing in You. Keep me close. Amen!
