"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!  So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:11-12‬

We’re very familiar with verse 12, the Golden Rule. We probably learned it the way it’s worded in the old King James translation: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But have you ever noticed that it actually begins with the word “so” or “therefore?” That word ties the Golden Rule to what comes before it. (Remember the rule: whenever you see a therefore in the Bible, look to see what it’s there for.)

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! So...

Because we have a Heavenly Father who knows how to give good things to those who ask Him, we are free give and do good things for people around us. We can do for them the things that we might wish people would do for us, because we have an unimaginably wealthy and generous Father who will always take care of our needs.

Dear Father in Heaven, You have called me Your child for Jesus’ sake and I know You will never abandon me. Help me to look at the people around me and see their needs from the perspective of an unspeakably wealthy heir with a generous trust fund. Amen.
