“This God—His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭22:31

There are three wonderful declarations in this verse.

1. "God’s way is perfect." There is no error, no wavering, no evil or even questionable motives to be attributed to Him. The way that He deals with His people is perfect; the way in which He calls us to walk is perfect.

2. "His Word proves true."  Time and again men have questioned the dependability of God’s Word. They have ridiculed it as unscientific, rejected its record of historical facts, disregarded His Law, and claimed that we as a human race have outgrown our need for it; that we have evolved and now we know better. And every time the Bible has proven to be right, true, accurate, and trustworthy. There will be more criticism of God’s Word in the future and many will be convinced to abandon it, but in the end it will always  prove to be true.  It is, after all, God’s Word.

3. "He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him." It’s always safe to trust in Jesus. He will not allow anything to touch you apart from His will, and since His will is good and perfect, there is nothing to be feared. You can flee for refuge to Him, no matter what’s going on and you will be safe.

Violence in the streets? Pestilence and disease? Personal losses and hardships? Old age creeping in? Fears assail us at every stage of life. The Lord is a shield to all those who take refuge in Him. Come to Him and you will be safe.

Lord Jesus, You never fail. I know I can always trust Your Word. You keep Your promises, and I am always safe with You. Forgive my doubts and fears, my unfaithfulness, and my sin. Hide me in You; be a shield around me. Keep me close. Amen.
