"And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him."

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:27-28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In the parking lot yesterday, talking with someone waiting fo a food box, he observed, “You have to do your best in this life.  We only get one chance to get it right.  There are no do-overs.”

That’s what the Bible says, too. “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

But it goes on and says something wonderful. “In the same way Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many...”  The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross carried away your sins and mine, once for all.  It is a perfect sacrifice that serves for all mankind and for all time.  Anyone who repents and believes in Him is forgiven and accepted.

One life for each of us; one sacrifice for all of us.

“He will appear a second time... to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him.“

Just as after our one chance at life we will appear before the judgment seat, Jesus will appear on judgment day, too; not to be judged, but to sit as Judge.  And as Judge, He will save those who have come to Him in faith.

This morning we will gather and worship Him.  We will thank Him for His forgiveness and the price He paid to make it possible.  We will listen to His Word and let it call our hearts to deeper repentance and greater faith.

Lord Jesus, our Savior, we worship You this morning.  You have purchased us with your blood; we are yours.  As we watch the world sink into confusion and despair we wait eagerly for your return.  Come quickly, Lord Jesus!  Amen.
