"Take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." - 2 Peter 3:17-18
After a hiatus of several years I recently returned to training in martial arts. The other students are all decades younger than me; some of the Black Belts are the age of my grandchildren.
One of the challenges is maintaining stability as I move. Doing things I used to do without even thinking about it, it was a shock to realize how much stability I had lost in a relatively short period of not training. In a fight, if your opponent can get you off balance, it’s over. You will be “carried away” by His next move and find yourself lying on the mat. In this life, I’ve found that if I lose sight of the fact that I am a sinner saved by grace and take my eyes off of growing closer to the Lord Jesus, I quickly lose my spiritual stability and then I am easily carried away by the sinful way of thinking and living of the world around me. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) Lord Jesus, by Your grace I am saved and by Your grace I stand. Hold my hand and steady me when I wobble. Keep from losing my spiritual stability and being carried away in sinful error. Keep me close; I look to You. Amen. Pastor Dan Giles
