"All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations."
Psalm 22:27-28
The very essence of sin is the rejection of God’s authority and the desire to be each be our own little “god.” This idea isn’t new; it’s the oldest lie in the book. The devil has never been very original; he keeps repeating the same old lies.
The idea that I know better than God, that my ideas about how life should be lived are better than His, or that my sense of what’s right and wrong is more accurate than God’s simply proves that my heart is in rebellion against Him.
There have always been and in this age there will always be people who insist that what God calls right is wrong; that God’s view of life, love, and relationships is unloving and harsh and promotes hate. In our day we have seen the move from individuals who reject God’s Word to entire philosophical and political movements that reject Him, but even that isn’t new; we’ve been here before.
The Bible declares that “Kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations.” Eventually “every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” It’s just a matter of “when?”
Lord, we pray that in our nation, in our families and in our lives, it would be soon. Bring us to our knees in repentance and faith now, before we find ourselves standing before Your throne of judgment. Let us return to You now while there is room for forgiveness and salvation, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
