"Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling!"

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭43:3‬

In Luther’s Small Catechism we learned to say, “I believe that I cannot, by my own reason or strength, believe in Jesus Christ my Lord or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me through the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, and sanctified and preserved me in the true faith...”

David calls out to God, “Send the light of Your Word into my heart! Send Your Truth, into my heart so that I am able to trust in You, be led by Your holy Word, and come to You.”

To come to God’s holy hill meant the hill on which the Temple would be built, but for us as Christians we know of another holy hill, which is on the same mountain as the Temple; the hill of Calvary.

The way to God’s dwelling place, Heaven, goes through God’s holy hill of Calvary, where the Lord Jesus died for my sin. When God sends His light and His Truth into our hearts, the Holy Spirit leads us by them first to Calvary and then to heaven.

Lord, send Your light and Your truth into our hearts. Call, gather, enlighten and save a new generation. Open hearts so that Your Word penetrates, grows roots, and bears fruit in our lives. Lead us to Calvary, so that we can be brought Home to You in Heaven, for Jesus’ sake, amen.
