"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:27‬

Man and woman, created by God, in the image of God. That’s what the Bible says.

There are any number of alternate explanations offered today: the human race is the product of evolution, or the result of an endless cycle of reincarnations, or descended from aliens that arrived from some other planet. Even though they are presented in scientific or religious language to make them sound less silly, none of them really make much sense, and every one of them devalues human life as being something less than a special creation in the image of God.

At the root of it all is a heart of rebellion. If there is a God Who created me, gave me my body and soul and all the special talents and abilities that make me unique, then I owe it all to Him, and He can demand an account from me of what I do with His gifts.

On the other hand, if I give up the effort to explain God away and embrace the fact that I am a special creation made in His own image with a beautiful, loving purpose to fulfill, life suddenly has meaning and makes sense. I am not an accident of cosmic proportions; I am a beloved child of a Father in Heaven.

Which explanation do you prefer?

Father in Heaven, let my life show Your likeness in all I say and do.  Fulfill Your purpose in creating me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
