"I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love." - Psalm‬ ‭119:46-47

As a young man I made a foray into the writings of the great philosophers. There was a lot of good stuff there: great wisdom, logical reasoning, astute observations of humanity, of nature and the world. Then I returned to the study of the Bible and it was like comparing firecrackers to an atom bomb. A single verse of the Book of Proverbs packed more wisdom than an entire chapter of Aristotle or Confucius.

Do you find delight in God’s Commandments? The more I study the Bible, the more precious it becomes. I still find new gems of delight every time I read through it again. Psalm 119 is a hymn of praise to the Word of God. It resonates in our hearts with the glory and wonder of hearing God’s own thoughts expressed, given to us to guide us in our thinking, to give wisdom in our decisions, and to reveal God’s love, forgiveness, and salvation to us. And yet the whole message can be stated in a single verse like: “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans‬ ‭6:23‬) Boom! Lord, You have made Your Word so profound, yet so simple. Your wisdom far surpasses our best thoughts, but is accessible to a child. Your great power, holiness and justice are displayed beside Your unimaginable love, mercy, and grace. Thank You for giving us Your Word. Amen.
