"Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness." - Psalm 96:12-13 Whenever and wherever man’s rebellion against God and the authority of His Word get the upper hand, unjust laws are passed; oppression, suffering, and persecution become normal; the economy suffers, resulting in poverty for many. Chaos results. “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34)
As we see the world descend into chaos, we know there is hope. We know that God reigns, and He will set limits to the damage that man in his rebellion can do. But even more than that is the assurance that when the time comes Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead, and of His Kingdom there will be no end. We wait, ultimately, for that.
Lord Jesus, our eyes look to You as the rebellion continues, as turmoil and chaos swirl around us. You are the Lord of all. Your Kingdom of peace gives us a safe refuge even now, and we wait for You to bring everything around to serve Your purpose. Keep us close, Lord. Amen.
