"The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, 'The Lord your God pronounced this disaster against this place. The Lord has brought it about, and has done as He said. Because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey His voice, this thing has come upon you.'" ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:2-3‬ This fascinates me. After the fall of Jerusalem, Nebuzaradan, the Babylonian captain of the guard in charge of marching the captured Jews off to Babylon, explains to Jeremiah the very thing that Jeremiah himself had been preaching for years and could not get the King of Judah or his own people to believe. Nebuzaradan is a believer! God, in His mercy, had arranged that the captain of the guard in charge of prisoner transport was a believer. Who would have thought such a thing were possible? I have learned over the years that God will have placed special people in key places before we get there. Sometimes they themselves have no idea that the Lord is using them for His purposes; sometimes they are believers and are very much aware of His purpose. It doesn’t matter; Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. Whether they know it or not, they work for Him. We can proceed with confidence, even in a hostile environment, because God is still in charge. All we have to do is be faithful to His Word and trust Him to accomplish His purpose. Lord, we look to You and trust You, even when the World seems to be out of control and those in authority are in rebellion against You. You are still the Lord of all, and we are still Your chosen, beloved children. You will accomplish Your good purpose in our lives. Thank You for this assurance! Amen.
