God created Man in His image, male and female. He invented marriage, designing Eve as the ideally-designed partner for Adam, a “help, meet for him.”
The creation of the human race was God’s doing. The creation of man and woman was God’s doing. Marriage was God’s design and His creation.
Just as God, who created us, has the exclusive authority to tell us what is our purpose and how we are to live to achieve that purpose, He who created marriage has the authority to tell us what marriage is, what is its purpose and how it works in order to fulfill that purpose.
Any attempt on the part of man to redefine marriage, change the parameters of marriage, or re-purpose it to our own satisfaction are simply evidence of our rebellion against God. Like a rebellious child we are telling our Heavenly Father, “You aren’t the boss of me! You can’t tell me what to do!”
That attitude is the essence of sin. God is the Boss. He can and does tell us who we are, what we’re here for, and what to do, and He’s always right. All rebellion against Him ends in disaster.
The only way to avoid the disaster is repentance, forgiveness and restoration.
Lord God, Heavenly Father, I confess that you’re right and whenever I rebel against Your design and Your authority, I’m wrong. Forgive me for Jesus’ sake; wash away my sin and set my feet on the right path. Restore and fulfill Your purpose in my life and in my family, no matter what the devil, the world and my own sinful flesh tell me. Deliver me from evil! Amen.
