"The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey.”
Numbers 14:7-8
Moses sent twelve men to spy out the Land that God had promised to give to Israel. All twelve saw the same things but they came to two very different conclusions about what they saw. Ten of the men said, “We can’t do it! There are giants and fortified cities and danger.” Two of them, Joshua and Caleb, gave the answer in the verse above: “If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us in.”
Faith is what makes the difference between the two answers. Faith doesn’t fail to see the obstacles, the dangers, and the potential for failure. It doesn’t see the world through rosy-colored glasses. It just sees something that the heart of unbelief can’t see; faith sees that God is in the equation, too.
Yes, there are giants in the land before us. Yes, the expenses are more than our resources. Yes, the doctor says I have an incurable disease, or I’m just plain getting old so things don’t work the way they used to. Yes, there’s an epidemic and I might get infected. But God has promised He will never leave me nor forsake me, He has promised to be with me every day, wherever I go, to the end of the earth.
If God is with us, who can be against us? The answer to that question is, “Who cares? It doesn’t matter!”
Lord Jesus, You have promised to walk me all the way Home. You are my Good Shepherd. You are the Lord of my life. I trust You to take me safely every step of the way. Even as I see the giants, the dangers, and the impossible strongholds in my way, keep my eyes on You . You are bigger than any of them. I believe Your Word. Amen.
