"And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers." - 1 Thessalonians 2:13
I have sat under great Bible teachers: Sunday School teachers, pastors, Bible School and Seminary professors. It has been such a privilege to know them and be discipled by them. Their words, their counsel and their godly example have meant so much to me and have profoundly affected my life.
But it was the fact that what they taught me was the Word of God that has really made the difference in my life. Some of the things they taught me, I no longer remember from which one of them I learned them; but the lessons are still there in my heart.
They also kept directing me back to the Bible for my answers, so that I learned to listen to the voice of God, not just theirs. As time goes on on, the living Word of God continues to speak to me day by day, and I find guidance and comfort, wisdom and understanding when I need them.
I love it when people hear from God during a sermon or Bible Study that I am teaching. Sometimes what they take away from the sermon wasn’t what I meant to say at all, but it is what God was saying to them through His Word. We are in the presence of the Living God, who speaks to His children. His Word is living and active, and works in our hearts to accomplish His purpose in our lives.
Father, You lead Your children along the way. You speak to us and teach us from Your Word what we need to know. Open the eyes and ears of my heart today to receive what You have for me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
