"As a pleasing aroma I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. And I will manifest My holiness among you in the sight of the nations."
God’s chosen people, who live a separated life, whose lives reflect the holiness of God, are a "pleasing aroma", like incense that rises up from among the nations to God.
God describes sin as a stench in His nostrils. Prayer, on the other hand, is pictured as rising incense.
The incense in the Tabernacle and in the Temple was a picture of the prayers rising up to God, and an indication of the holiness of God, where He met with His people.
As the Holy Spirit calls and gathers us from among the nations by faith in Christ, calling us to a holy life, separating us from all the nations where we live, we become that pleasing aroma of holiness that rises up to God.
Forgiven, cleansed by the blood of Jesus, set apart for God, living in a relationship of beloved children with our Heavenly Father, we are made a part of the worship that declares the glory of God.
His character is seen in us, and in His never-ending mercy toward us, and so His holiness is displayed among the nations.
Lord God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Comforter, we worship and praise You for your forgiveness and mercy. You have called and gathered us by faith in Jesus. You have set us apart for Yourself. Give us Your Holy Spirit today to strengthen us for a life done Your way, so that Your glory may be seen in us, here where we live. Amen.
