"Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing." - 1 Peter 3:9
We have been “called to obtain a blessing.” What this means is that we have the power, as the redeemed children of God by faith in Christ, to get a blessing; not just for ourselves, but on behalf of someone else, and to declare that blessing to them.
So when we are “reviled” (which means when they say nasty things about us), instead of dishing it back and saying terrible things about them, whether to their face or to other people, we can instead say good things about them and proclaim good things over them by faith.
For Jesus’ sake we have access to the command center of heaven. We can go to our Heavenly Father in prayer, obtain a blessing from Him and then go and deliver that blessing to the person who is saying all those bad things about us.
What does your enemy need? Ask God to show you what it is and then begin to pray for that. When He gives you the opportunity, don’t hesitate to speak your blessing directly to them or about them.
Then wait and see what God will do. He called you to obtain a blessing, so He is going to back you up and you will see all kinds of things happen as He goes to work on them.
Lord Jesus, You have called me to bless those around me. Help me to understand what that means and how to do it. Amen!
