"Oh, how abundant is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You and worked for those who take refuge in You, in the sight of the children of mankind! In the cover of Your presence You hide them from the plots of men; You store them in Your shelter from the strife of tongues."
Psalm 31:19-20
“Those who fear You... those who take refuge in You.” These are one and the same. Those who fear God and those who take refuge in God are the same people. The fear of God calls us to repentance, but repentance in its full sense is only possible where there is faith, because “Whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
We are at a tipping-point in the history of our country. However this election turns out and whatever direction the culture of this nation takes going forward, will you be faithful to Jesus? Will you fear God, or man? Will you take refuge in the Lord, or in politics, education, or the approval of your neighbors?
We have come to the place where we will have to make a choice and take a stand. As you make your choices, understand the promise of this verse and be comforted by it: “Oh, how abundant is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You and worked for those who take refuge in You, in the sight of the children of mankind!”
Lord God, I choose to fear You, not man. I take my refuge in You, whatever comes. I put myself in your care and entrust my life to You. Help me to stand for what’s right in Your eyes. Give me strength. Hide me in your shelter, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
