It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

John 6:63

God’s Word stimulates the mind in ways that all the textbooks of Science never can. I am challenged to think in ways that are beyond the reach of human science and reason, because faith, by its nature, requires me to accept as true some things that are not scientifically provable and build my life on them.

The very first verse in the Bible tells me that God created the universe. That by itself demands that I submit my logical mind to a truth that is scientifically unprovable and must be received by faith.

Then the Bible tells me that God became a man; He stepped into His creation and subjected Himself for the span of a human life to the limitations of time and space - limits that He Himself had created.

Christmas requires me to accept as true things that can’t be proven by science; things that defy logic.

Once I have accepted as truth these thing that the Bible asserts, all of life makes sense in ways that science and human reasoning alone can never explain.

Even the suffering that is a part of life makes sense if I accept as true what the Bible tells me about human sin and its consequences. Science and logic by themselves will never make sense of life, without God’s Word.

If what the Bible says happened at Christmas is true, then in spite of all logic and reason there is hope for my future, forgiveness for my failures and redemption from the evil I see at work in this world, and in my own heart.

Lord, Your Word makes no sense but makes sense of everything. Your love, mercy and forgiveness defy logic but promise me salvation. I believe Your Word, Lord Jesus; thank You for coming to be my Savior. Amen.
