"The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught."

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭50:4‬

Would you like to be able to “sustain with a word him who is weary?” I know I would. The world is full of weary people. People are worn down, exhausted by isolation, fear, injustice. Sometimes the gross unfairness of life just gets to us.

How do you comfort them? What do you say? Sometimes I have found myself with someone who has just suffered an overwhelming loss, wondering what I could possibly say to them that would mean anything at all.

"To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is!" (Proverbs‬ ‭15:23‬)

The secret of being able to give a word in season that will bring comfort to the weary soul is in getting that word fresh from the heart of God. Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John‬ ‭7:38‬)

It isn’t automatic. Such a fresh spring has to be maintained. Not everyone who believes in Jesus will have a word of healing and comfort ready on their lips at every moment.  But as we walk with Him in a true and living faith, He opens our ear morning by morning to teach us what we need for this day. The one who has a word of comfort is the one who has been taught.

Come to Him, morning by morning. Get a fresh word from Him each day. Fill your heart and mind with His Word each morning and let Him teach you. Be a disciple! Then it will flow, and you will have a word to sustain the weary when the moment comes. You never know whom He might bring to you today.

Lord Jesus, open the ears of my heart. Speak to me and give me something from your Word today, a word of comfort for the weary ones around me. Let your Holy Spirit flow through me as you promised, to be our comforter. The people around me need it, and I need it, too. Amen.
