"We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one." - 1 John 5:19
This isn’t a pessimistic statement: it’s simply an observation, and a comforting one at that. There are two things that we know for sure.
As we see the world around us and deal with the pressures and temptations of each day; as we see the evening news and hear what’s going on in the world, it’s pretty clear that the whole world is indeed in the power of the evil one. We know this, and it explains everything. On the other hand, we also know that we belong to God. Jesus is Lord, and we are His. God is our Father in Heaven and we are His beloved children. We have been redeemed, saved and placed in His Kingdom even as we live in this world. No matter what is going on in the world around us, knowing these two truths and keeping them in perspective gives us understanding, comfort and peace. It all makes sense, and there is a purpose and an end in sight; so we can trust God and move forward. Lord Jesus, my Redeemer and Lord, thank You for making these two facts clear. Keep my eyes on these two truths as I go about my day: I am in enemy held territory, and I am Yours. Keep me close, Lord. Amen! Pastor Dan Giles
