"Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!"
Psalm 27:11-14
I love this Psalm! It’s a declaration of trust in the face of a vicious attack.
Even as he asks God to protect Him from the attack, David expresses his confidence in His deliverance: “Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.” (Psalm 27:3)
And through it all, he insists on keeping his focus, not on the attack and not even on the deliverance, but on getting closer to the Lord: “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)
So it should be with me. Whether the attack comes in the form of temptation, or opposition and persecution, or a trial of sickness and hardship, I know that I will be delivered by God’s faithfulness and have no need to fear. My focus can be on getting to know Jesus better through it all.
Lord Jesus, I know You will deliver me; I am waiting on You to carry me safely through this. Hide me, deliver me, heal me; but however You do it, let me know You more through this and come through it closer to You. Keep me close, Lord. Amen!
