"I bless the Lord Who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me." Psalm 16:7 As we read and hear the Word of God, it takes root in our hearts. As we think about it and meditate on it, it grows and begins to produce fruit in our lives. Like a tree of life, it brings healing and nourishment to us. As we speak with others out of a mind filled with God’s counsel, we bless the Lord, (we “speak good things about” Him), and so the Word of God, hidden in our hearts, brings healing and nourishment to everyone around us. Not only is it good counsel, it breathes the breath of God into our life. If you spend a little time reading the Bible when you first wake up it sets the tone for the day. If you take a moment here and there during the day to go back and meditate on what you read, it will shape your habits of thought, (what we call your attitudes). Let the Word of God fill your mind and heart so that when you sleep your dreams are permeated by it. When you lie awake at night, let your mind go back to what you read that morning. “In the night also, my heart instructs me.” There’s healing and peace there, when our minds are overwhelmed and our hearts are burdened by everything else that we saw and heard during the day. Lord, Your Word is living and active. It penetrates my heart, soothes my fevered thoughts, quiets my fears, and heals the wounds of my soul. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming to me, reminding me of what I have read, and speaking Your words of wisdom and healing into my heart. Amen. Pastor Dan Giles
