"And he said to me, 'Son of man, eat whatever you find here. Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.' So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat."

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭3:1-2‬

The Lord Jesus said that we would be His witnesses to the world around us. We speak on His behalf to our children and grandchildren, too. God will provide us with opportunities to speak a timely word, but if we are going to have something to say when those moments come along we somehow have to prepare for them.

Since we don’t know when those moments will come or what the situation will be, how do we prepare? We can’t have a three-point sermon ready for every moment. (Besides, we would bore people to death with that approach!)

Here’s God’s answer: eat the scroll! Fill your belly with God’s Word. Fill your heart and mind with God’s thoughts and opinions. Jesus Himself said, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45)

Lord, there are so many voices clamoring for attention, all shouting their opinion and wanting to fill our minds with their point of view. You have called us to speak on Your behalf. Remind me every day to make reading or hearing Your Holy Word my priority. Fill my heart with Your thoughts, my mind with Your Word, so that when I do have an opportunity to add to the conversation, something truly worthwhile will come out of my mouth on Your behalf. Let my mouth overflow with Your Word, Lord Jesus. Amen.
