“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3-4‬

I have heard more and more people say, “I don’t watch the news any more. All they do is try to scare people.”

What’s on the news is pretty scary, all right, and sometimes you get the impression that the talking heads on the screen take special, gleeful delight in reporting the latest disaster. They don’t even have to make stuff up; there is plenty of  material for nightmares out there.

Could disaster strike us? Yesterday morning I heard of a friend whose entire crop was flattened by a hailstorm. In the afternoon I prayed with another friend who is living through the advanced stages of cancer.  Two years ago, our thirteen year old granddaughter died of a brain tumor. Last Fall a friend of mine was murdered.

But with all that’s happening we have an everlasting rock on which to stand. The Lord fills our minds and hearts with perfect peace as we trust in Him.

We pray for deliverance from the epidemic, for healing from disease, for justice to be done and peace to return, and we pray in faith. We expect Him to intervene and answer our prayers. But through it all our hope is in the Lord, and we trust in Him. He will carry us through.

Lord God, this world has no hope to offer, but we trust in You. You are the solid, everlasting rock. Keep our eyes on You, and fill our hearts with your peace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
