“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Luke 12:40 When will the Lord Jesus return? Bible scholars pore over the Scriptures, looking for clues. They have made elaborate charts detailing the order of events leading up to His return. The best of them offer three, or four, or five alternative charts, realizing that while God has revealed just enough to keep us on our toes, there are quite a few things that He has purposely left obscure. The Lord Himself said, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power... and you will be My witnesses...” (Acts 1:7-8) Put more bluntly: “That’s none of your business. Pay attention instead to the task I am giving you.” The verse with which we began says, “the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” It’s good to study everything the Bible reveals to us, but we know beforehand that we will never be able to figure this one out, because God has reserved this knowledge for Himself. He even told us so! But we are each to be faithful in whatever the Lord has entrusted to us, as we wait for Him to return - at the moment when we least expect Him. "Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes." (Luke 12:37) Lord Jesus, keep my heart and my mind focused on what You have given me to do as I wait for You to return. May I be found being faithful at that moment. And oh Lord, make it soon! Amen.
