"He will tend his flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs in His arms; He will carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are with young."
Isaiah 40:11
Sunday night at church after the special service we had, Susan was playing the piano as we all slowly trickled out the door, “He Shall Feed His Flock Like a Shepherd,” this very verse set to music in Handel’s Messiah. Handel followed this verse with the Lord’s words in Matthew 12:29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls.”
What comfort there is in these words. The Lord Jesus is my Shepherd, who tenderly cares for me, binds up my wounds, carries me when I’m broken and hurt, and guides me all through this life. What a celebration that makes out of Christmas for us who know Him!
Come quickly, Lord Jesus! We’re waiting for You. Reveal Yourself to our loved ones, our friends and our neighbors; let them come to know You, too! Amen.
