"There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides You; there is no rock like our God."

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭2:2

Hannah had just had a prayer answered that had been on her heart for years. She had fervently prayed for a son. In spite of all the evidence that she could never have children, she continued praying. And then when God finally answered her prayer and she gave birth to a son, Samuel, she gave him back to the Lord, because her heart was set on the Lord, not on His answer to her prayer.

This verse is a part of Hannah’s prayer of thanksgiving as she gave her beloved son to the Lord. He would grow up in the Temple, serving Eli, the priest, and eventually become a great prophet of God.

When we ask God for something that is really important to us, we sometimes find it hard to remember Who’s in charge. We think that if God doesn’t give us what we want on our schedule, He isn’t listening, doesn’t care - or we might even begin to think maybe there’s no one there!

Do you have a prayer that you have been bringing to the Lord for years, and still haven’t seen His answer? It’s not unusual. God has His plan, and will answer us according to His own will and on His own timetable. The question is, will you keep on trusting Him? Will you accept His answer? And once you receive His answer, will you still keep your eyes on Him?

There is no rock like our God. The answered prayers that we seek from Him are wonderful, but don’t let your eyes get so focused on what you want in this life that you lose sight of what’s really important. Trust in the Lord, and you will be established.

Lord, keep my heart firmly fixed on You. Let me be able to say, "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. I leave the desires of my heart in your hands and trust in You", in Jesus’ name. Amen.
