He makes nations great, and He destroys them; He enlarges nations, and leads them away. He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth and makes them wander in a trackless waste. They grope in the dark without light, and He makes them stagger like a drunken man.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭12:23-25‬

God is on the throne of the Universe. Nations rise and fall by His design. Rulers are given wisdom or made foolish and blind, according to His purpose. History is His Story.

God is capable of making a foolish and incompetent ruler wise, and of making an intelligent, well-prepared one incapable of making good decisions, his mind filled with wrong ideas and faulty reasoning.

Pray for our President, governors, legislators and judges. Wisdom comes from God, and good and wise rulers are a gift from Him.

The Bible tells us, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” ‭‭(1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-2‬)

Unrighteous, foolish rulers give us foolish, ungodly laws and decisions. Under such leadership the country descends into chaos, strife, and undignified behavior. A contempt for law and order, incivility and abuse rule the day.

Under good and wise rulers there is peace, safety and security. We are able to go about our business and above all worship God and preach and teach His Word, unhindered.

That’s why the next verse says,“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:3-4‬) Father, forgive my cynical and judgmental attitude toward our governing authorities. Keep my heart right before You as I pray for them. Give wisdom to the foolish and ungodly among them so that they govern according to Your wisdom. Give us freedom, safety and peace that enable us to serve You unhindered, in Jesus’ name, amen!
