"Then his master summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?'"

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:32-33‬

"For it is You who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness."

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭18:28‬

When we are offended and hurt by others we are naturally inclined to hang on to anger and resentment until our hearts become self-centered, bitter, and dark. We convince ourselves that we have a right to feel the way we do, and from a purely human point of view, we may be right.

But then there’s God’s point of view, which forgives even me against all reason, and then calls me to be like Him and forgive those who have done wrong to me. When the light of God’s Word shines into my sin-darkened heart, I begin to see myself as God sees me and to see other people the way that He sees them.

Lord Jesus, give me Your understanding, to see myself as You do, to accept Your wonderful forgiveness, and to love others as You have loved me. Let the light of Your Word shine in my darkness. Lead me in the way of eternal life. Amen.
